InfomationWales: A Nation Full of Champions allhere

Wales, weve had more than our fair share of moments to be proud of this summer.  In a year that brought us our most successful Commonwealth Games ever, the Welsh Dragon has flown high as our athletes have claimed their places on medal winning podiums, marking our small yet mighty nation as a victorious one.

We have seen new idols emerge and existing stars cement their status; gymnast Frankie Jones, swimmers Jazz Carlin and Georgia Davies and cyclist Geraint Thomas to name just a few.  Names that have made us proud to be Welsh, and individuals that we have quite rightly celebrated as champions.

And its not just our Team Wales athletes and sporting elite that have had a victorious summer.  Everyday somebody in Wales achieves their very own sporting triumph, their very own personal podium moment.

These moments help make us the proud and sporting nation that we are.  Wales is not a nation made up of just a few sporting idols while the rest of the country simply watches on as bystanders.  We are a nation full of thriving community clubs, inspiring coaches and volunteers, and individuals determined to run that extra mile, we are a nation full of sporting champions.

We asked the great Welsh public to share their personal podium moments with us and what we received was truly inspiring.  From every corner of the country you proved us right there are great sporting things taking place in all of our communities.

From those who have spent a lifetime in sport supporting others to achieve podium moments -such as Glynn and Margaret Harris of Rhondda Swimming Club, to those just starting their lifetime in sport - such as Gymnast Maisie and Multi-events Champ, Lottie.

13 year old Lottie Mitchell is Welsh Multi Events Champion - hot on the heels of Jessica Ennis.

And from those who have fought back after injury such as Lewis Edwards and Tim Fry to those taking the first brave steps in a new sport, we have seen many moments that made us smile.

For fun, for winning and for charity, from individuals to schools (special mention to Ysgol Y Strade who were the biggest individual contributor to our album), community clubs and teams representing Wales on an international stage.  You have shown that sport is something that we can all be part of and excel in, in our very own way.
