France and Croatia will face each other in the World Cup final on Sunday (15/07/2018).

France beat Belgium 1-0 in Tuesday's semifinals (10/7/2018), while Croatia toppled the 1966 England 2-1 win over extra-time on Wednesday (11/7/2018).

Both national teams previously played five times. France have won the three matches, while the other two produced a draw.

The first match was played on July 8, 1998, the World Cup semifinals. Les Bleus won 2-1 and advanced to the final, which they won over Brazil 3-0 at home.
France and Croatia last played in March 2011 in an international friendly, but the draw was 0-0.

At the World Cup debut in 1998, Croatia made it to the semi-finals, eventually winning the third game. The result catapulted them from 125th place to third place in FIFA rankings around the world, and the team was laid out by the golden generation of Croatia.

In 2014, Croatia failed to advance from the group stage, partly as a result of a controversial defeat to Brazil.

The team lost 3-1 in their first match to Brazil, in an impressive penalty contest awarded to Brazil after front striker Fred fell due to "little contact from Croatian defender" (some might say he was diving).

How They Are Until 2018

Croatia completed a perfect 3-0 performance in the group stages. The team defeated Nigeria, 2-0, with an own goal and a penalty kick. Then it devastated Argentina by a stunning 3-0 margin and got rid of Iceland with a 2-1 win, in the last group game.

The team's KO match against Denmark ended 1-1 after a pair of early attacks in the first four minutes of the game. But after that, playing keep the spirit even Croatia finally won 3-2 on penalties.

In the quarterfinals Croatia ended Russia's surprise journey, winning 4-3 on penalties. In the semi-final they smothered England 2-1 through extra time.

The Croatian team has a pretty unexpected opportunity to win the title with a stunning journey this year. The team played in the shadow of the 1998 squad, but it seemed to inspire the players. Defender Vedran Corluka said: "We are in the semi-finals again, after 20 years. It's something special in our country. "

For Croatian star Luka Modric, the final is an opportunity to save a full relationship with the Croatian public, thanks to the false oath indictment. At 32, this may be his last World Cup and a last chance to improve relations with his country's supporters.
